Most skincare advice is written for temperate climates. In Riyadh, Dubai or Kuwait City the routine breaks down by noon. Here is what actually survives the Gulf summer.
Three principles run the Gulf summer routine. First, choose mineral SPF over chemical for the face — zinc oxide and titanium dioxide hold up under heat without breaking down into pro-inflammatory byproducts the way avobenzone does at 40°C+. Second, lock in your morning hydration with a humectant-then-occlusive stack: glycerin or hyaluronic acid first, then a thin layer of dimethicone or squalane — this prevents the moisture from evaporating into the dry indoor AC and the brutal outdoor heat.
Third, accept that your skin needs more frequent reapplication, not heavier products: a powder SPF for top-ups every two hours beats applying a thick cream once and praying. For the body, switch shower gels to syndet (synthetic detergent) bars that respect the skin's pH — soap strips the acid mantle and the heat does the rest. Post-sun, layer a centella asiatica gel and a fragrance-free moisturizer, never an alcohol-based aftersun.
Finally, never sleep without a humidifier in your bedroom if the AC runs all night — your skin loses up to half a litre of water through ambient air, and you wake up to lines you did not earn.
